Bedroom Furniture - The Rustic Look

If you’re thinking about redecorating your home with a fresh new look, one popular theme is the rustic style. In fact, there are many variations of this theme. Rustic simply implies nature-inspired. If you are considering a natural look for your home, the bedroom is as good a place to being as any.

As always, when shopping for furniture, you need to make some decisions about what goes and what stays. If you’re looking to outfit your home with rustic bedroom furniture, you probably aren’t going to keep much of what you have in the room. Rustic bedroom furniture, unlike more transitional styles, is not really conducive to mixing and matching. When it comes to rustic furniture probably most of your old stuff is going.

Once you’ve decided what new bedroom furniture you need, take a look at the walls and lighting. As I mentioned before, many different styles of furnishing fall under the umbrella of “rustic.” Typically, we tend to think of rustic furniture as sylvan, the raw woody furnishings of a cabin or lodge. While most rustic furniture is crafted in wood with very natural finishes, it also includes Southwestern and Mexican styles. Take into consideration the type of home you have and the natural lighting to determine what thematically works best in your space. Southwestern looks tend to work well with bolder colors, where more traditionally rustic looks prefer more neutral color schemes.

When it comes to redecorating, much of your budget will be spent on bedroom furniture. This is especially the case when creating a theme in your room because you will likely end up buying an entirely new collection of furniture. Therefore, if you’re on a tighter budget, try to save by spending less on accessories, wall fixtures, and paint. While often old bedroom furniture doesn’t work with themes, many times you can keep the accessories and just do some rearranging.

Just remember that when it comes to bedroom furniture (or any furniture, for that matter), you shouldn’t cut corners when it comes to quality. There is no shortage of options when it comes to buying rustic furniture, so you’ll likely find items within your range of affordability. Do your homework, plan your space, and know what it is you need before you spend the money. You’ll find that redecorating your bedroom in a theme can be an enjoyable task.
